Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer upgrade pricing from Hush to Hush Pro?

Yes — if you have the original Hush app, you’re eligible for a $70 discount when purchasing Hush Pro, making the upgrade price $179 rather than $249.

To upgrade, first make sure you have version 1.2 or later of the Hush app. (You can update for free via the Mac App Store.) Launch the app, open the Hush menu, and choose About Hush. You’ll see an 8-letter code beside the copyright notice. To redeem it, enter your code into the “Discount code” field on the Hush Pro checkout page.

If you purchased Hush directly, you’re eligible for the same discount. If you already have version 1.2, follow the steps above to find your discount code. If you have an earlier version, just email me.

Why is Hush Pro is rendering silence?

If you’re on macOS Monterey, the short answer is: Hush Pro doesn’t officially support that operating system just yet, but will soon. (See the next question for details.)

If you’re on macOS Ventura and Hush Pro is rendering silence or behaving strangely, drop me an email. Please include your Mac model, macOS version, Pro Tools version, Hush Pro version, and a description of the problem (with screenshots and/or screen recordings, if possible).

Silence can also mean that Hush Pro is unable to connect with its background process, HushXPC. Restarting your Mac often resolves this issue. If that fails, try doing a clean install using the Uninstallation instructions here.

Does Hush Pro support macOS Monterey?

Not yet — but soon.

Hush Pro officially supports macOS Ventura, and is much more stable (and much faster) on that operating system. Although the plugin will open on macOS Monterey, it may run slower, stutter during live preview, or render silence, truncated clips, and/or full-scale noise.

Most of these issues stem from Apple’s CoreML framework, which handles machine learning tasks on Macs and other Apple devices. CoreML received substantial upgrades and bug fixes on macOS Ventura, resulting in faster performance (especially on the GPU) and improved stability.

If you’re running into problems with Hush Pro on Monterey, I generally advise upgrading to Ventura, if possible. (Since macOS upgrades bring significant changes, I strongly recommend making a full backup of your system so you can roll back if needed.)

That said, I’m working to resolve these Monterey-related bugs and plan to publish an update in early October. The update will also extend the free trial for Monterey users, so you can demo the plugin when it’s running smoothly on your system. I’ll publish any news on the product page, in my newsletter, and on Twitter (@hushaudioapp).

Will you make an AU/VST version?

Yes — but it’s easier said than done.

At the moment, Hush Pro includes two AudioSuite plugins (Hush Mix and Hush Split), which run inside Pro Tools. The plugins use random access — they look at the entire audio clip before processing — in order to isolate dialogue as transparently as possible. AudioSuite supports random access out of the box, while real-time formats like AU and VST do not.

With a few modifications, though, I plan on porting Hush Pro to these formats in the not-too-distant future, and will make them available as free updates for Hush Pro users, whenever they’re ready.

Will you make a Windows version?

Not anytime soon. Both Hush and Hush Pro are heavily optimized for Apple Silicon Macs, and rely on several Apple technologies (CoreML, Accelerate, and SwiftUI, among others). Porting my software to Windows would require a complete rewrite, including optimization for a variety of PC and GPU hardware. As a solo developer, I don’t have the resources to pull this off just yet, though I haven’t ruled it out.
